federal wildfire channel loads

we have probably posted this type of info before

federal wildfire units have radios with banks of 16 channels typically

their normal everyday bank or maybe home bank or ranger district bank
typically has -

whatever local repeaters are typically used for day to day ops - maybe
a forest net and a admin net - maybe just 1 net - maybe 1 to 5
repeaters for each net

1 or 2 air to ground channels - these are pre-assigned by "Air Zone" -
which is not really a thing - its just a pair or 3 channels that are
assigned to one large geographic area - maybe typically separated by a
mountain range - these Air Zone channels are typically managed /
"owned" by the GACC

maybe 1 or 2 or 3 tactical short range fireline channels - quite often
these are NIFC tac channels or regional channels

channel 16 is typically 168.625

any unused channel slots commonly are filled by state forestry
channels or local fd channels or 155.34 or 154.28 or maybe 168.35 as a
travel channel or 163.7125 as a work channel or maybe a local federal
wildfire tac channel

bottom line - of the 16 channels - only a couple can be used to talk
to a dispatcher

it seems to be a nationwide SOP - that on the 2nd day of any major
fire - all of the radios at the scene get reprogrammed - adding some
temporary channels that are assigned to the incident by the GACC or by
NIFC
