st lawrence county ny - tax rates 2023
https://stlawco.org/sites/default/files/RealProperty/Tax%20Rates/TOWNCOUNTY%20RATES-2023.pdf
each Town has at least 1 fire tax rate
the city of ogdensburg - the only city in the county apparently - does
not have a separate tax for fire service
the towns with multiple fire tax rates usually have a separate tax
rate for each FD in their town
some fire taxes span multi towns
the Brasher-Winthrop FD seems to be funded by 4 different fire tax
rates - stockholm + brasher falls + brasher + winthrop (3 towns are
involved)

more info on nevada medevac plane crash
https://www.jems.com/news/ntsb-says-care-flight-plane-apparently-broke-apart-before-crash/
took 2 hours to find crash site in blizzard
former flight nurse heard the crash - was worried about her own house
- maybe after she was worried about the flight crew - because she
should have realized that the only plane flying in a blizzard would be
a medevac plane - maybe / hopefully the only plane flying in a
blizzard - whatever - too late now
======================
More than half a million medical patients use air ambulance services
each month in the U.S., according to the National Association of
Insurance Commissioners' website.
say what? 500,000 ? nah that cant be right
wait - 1000 helicopters - 1 call per day - that is 30,000 transports
per month - 360,000 per year - maybe 500,00 is correct for each year

good lord - the EPA is crazy
https://www.fda.gov/food/cfsan-constituent-updates/fda-withdraws-proposed-rule-general-principles-food-standards-modernization
since 2005 they have not been able to come up with a working rule for
food safety?
strongly indicates that we dont need a rule
just letting the lawyers sue the hell out of anyone that produces bad
products seems to be working
what does this say about fire laws and EMS laws?

star lake ny used arpa $ for junior FFs
Star Lake Fire Dept.
October 13, 2022 ·
We would like to give a shout out and a huge THANK YOU to the Town of
Fine board for them allocating $28000 of ARPA funds to the Clifton
Fine Junior Firefighter Program. Their assistance goes to show they
understand the need to obtain additional volunteers in emergency
services and their willingness to partner with our local fire
departments as we invest in the future of our youth.
This is a newly started program which will actually be presented to
the students tomorrow at school as part of the annual fire prevention
visit. The funds will be used to acquire safety gear for the youths
that will easily identify them as a member of the Junior program.
Thank you again for your continued support!

fire report with response times

5 minutes to get engine on road and 5 minute travel time = 10 minute
overall response time
openness and honesty in the US fire service - bravo!
next part of the story - was the crew well trained? - was the
equipment well maintained? - were the correct tactics / procedures
used? - was everyone intelligent and brave? - was there a little bit
of good luck involved?
let me read the rest of the article and see if the bld was saved - YES
- the bld was saved - but was it a total loss? looks like some
significant structural damage - what does the insurance company and/or
building inspector have to say?

Amazon expanding same-day delivery service
very very interesting
https://www.retaildive.com/news/amazon-expanding-same-day-delivery-service/643629/
wait till they figure out that they can guarantee 1.5 hour delivery
with the same infrastructure
its easy - just switch from 4 hour loads to 1 hour loads - but they
will need to build up volume and take over deliveries for walmart and
target and sears and such - maybe do food deliveries also

note - this is not a town or city or military base - this is a
economic development zone operated by "Massachusetts Development
Finance Agency" - we took that name directly out of the RFP above
so the FD name should be Radio Free Devens FD or MDFA EDZ Devens FD
not sure how common this is across the USA - Otis AFB on Cape Cod now
has a state FD - Loring AFB in Maine has a local FD substation iirc -
not sure whats up at Brunswick NAS in Maine - South Weymouth NAS is
still vacant land afaik - some other closed military bases across the
USA have active fire stations - not exactly sure who operates them -
it would be whoever the military turned the land over to - but that
might vary from location to location - iirc Plattsburgh AFB in NY is
now protected by a County FD - yup - clinton county ny owns and

south weymouth naval air sta near boston is no longer listed at airnav

this is the first save to the wayback machine - 165 pages - no
specifics on fire agencies
they have the typical fire service scheme - usfs does wildfire control
on national forests and blm land - oregon department of forestry does
wildfire control on rural private lands and state owned lands - local
FDs cover their local areas (which is typically the lowlands in the
valleys)
no one has responsibility for fighting building fires in the rural /
wilderness areas - but there are very few blds there
not sure who has responsibility for auto crashes way out in the woods
- maybe the closest FD is morally responsible to respond
note - the Lane County Fire Defense Board is actually the Lane County
Fire Mutual Aid Plan - this apparently is an Oregon thing - maybe
every county in Oregon has a "Fire defense Board" and it is actually a
"Fire Mutual Aid Plan" - these plans are apparently tied together at
the State level by the State Conflagration Act (which - again - is a
fire mutual aid plan)

re gloucester mass fire feed - update

- KNCN367 - 45.10 HT + MO3 - 151.43 M - 154.16 R - 154.385 BM - 154.83
HT - 159.09 M - 453.175 R - 453.9875 HT - 458.9875 HT
we were told today that the new scanner feed monitors 45.10 because
that is the channel that the MO3 in the FD command car uses to send
the audio from county red (153.83 + 487.3875) back to the gloucester
dispatcher
bottom line - the command car can patch 153.83 to 487.3875 and vice
versa - and it can also relay that traffic via 45.10 to the gloucester
dispatcher (who has a receiver on 45.10)
iirc 151.43 is / was the input to 154.16 R - not sure what 154.83 and

british death data is garbage
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSL1fRRhJX0
lol - uk stopped publishing covid death data for 8 months - and when
they restarted the results were very sloppy, based on different census
data, and as deficient as the previous data
the govt even agreed that the previous data was deficient
bottom line - the covid excess death info from the UK govt is nearly useless
perhaps with 20/20 hindsight - covid would have been handled this way
- spike in excess deaths seen - ground glass xrays seen of lungs -
vitamin D pushed to public - health care facilities go into full
lockdowns - 15 million deaths avoided

completely preventable per Dr C
pretty sure he is referring to Vitamin D - maybe ivermectin also
the basic premise of this particular video seems to be that if you
survive an initial bout of covid - then your immune system will
protect you as well as any vaccine will - but that logic seems to be
shaky

update on NSW radio systems - australia
NSW police are not operating in the PSN (GRN) allocation. They are
still operating ENCRYPTED (hate that word) in the 467.900MHz to
469.400MHz in 12.5 KHz spacing. They are not trunking but single
channel P25 I or APCO-25. Also NSW doesn't call their government PSN
networks GRN or Government Radio Network anymore, they call it PSN or
as we all know Public Safety Network. The Government PSN is P25II
trunking in the 406-423Mhz or there abouts. Our other PSN services are
not ENCRYPTED (yet) and if or when they do it's going to be a sad day.

Gloucester Mass FD - new scanner feed
https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/39896
" This feed is a link to a mobile repeater in the Gloucester Command
Car and will rebroadcast Fireground Traffic (Essex Red Channel) "
===============
not really sure what the set up is here
Essex Red is 153.83 and 487.3875 - apparently also called VHF 14 and UHF 14
dispatcher nets are 460.1375 R and 154.07 R / 158.73 in
151.46 was licensed as base and mobile channel in 8/2022
the mobile repeater in the Gloucester Command Car might be tying
153.83 and 487.3875 together - or it might be tying 153.83 and/or
487.3875 back to some dispatcher or dispatchers - or it might be doing
both or all of these things

2020 annual report - adirondack park authority
https://apa.ny.gov/Documents/Reports/2020APAAnnualReport.pdf - 47
pages - the word 'fire' does not appear anywhere in this document
they are just planners apparently - and zoning code enforcers - pretty
much - a staff of about 30 people
==========================
Telecommunication Projects 2020 was another busy year for
telecommunications projects in the Adirondack Park. The Agency issued
39 telecommunication permits consisting of seven Major Project
permits, nine General Permits, and 23 amendments (all as General
Permits). One of the Major Project permits authorized two towers (AT&T
and T-Mobile) in the Town of Long Lake, Hamilton County. In 2020, 10
new towers were authorized. Of those 10 new towers, two were next to
existing towers (i.e., horizontal co-locations authorized by General
Permit) and eight were raw land sites. Of those 10 new towers, six
were unconcealed towers and four were concealed as simulated trees. Of
those 10 new towers, seven involved AT&T, two involved T-Mobile, and
one involved Verizon Wireless. The 10 towers were authorized in the
following towns: Duane, Elizabethtown (2), Horicon, Lewis (2), Long
Lake (2), Newcomb, and Webb. The 30 General Permits and amendments
issued in 2020 were for antenna replacements and co-locations on
existing towers, buildings, and a water tank.
P2020-197, New Cingular Wireless PCS, LLC (AT&T) – Virginia Yamrick
presented a project involving the installation of a new
self-supporting 150-foot-tall monopole telecommunications tower within
a 36-foot by 60-foot leased area adjacent to the existing Town of
Newcomb water storage tank, Essex County. The Board unanimously
approved the project. (July 2020)
P2018-211, Vertical Bridge Holdings, LLC; New Cingular Wireless PCS,
LLC; TMobile Northeast, LLC – Virginia Yamrick presented a project
involving the installation of two self-supporting monopole towers, one
concealed as an 85-foot and the other as a 90- foot-tall simulated
tree, with each tower supporting on single array of cellular panel
antennas at an 83-foot and an 88-foot centerline height in the Town of
Long Lake, Hamilton County. The Board unanimously approved the
project. (February 2020)

3. do they have any fires?
4. what is the average response time or turnout time? how does the
public contact the dispatch center? is the dispatch center open 24/7?
are the dispatchers trained?

4th bay can be added to new fire station if local 911 center closed
iirc ipswich has a sub fire station that has never been used by the FD
since it was built around 1975
and they have 2 high schools that are disaster areas so it seems
the regional dispatch center that they mention is kinda strange - it
just serves a handful of the smallest towns in the county
overall - its very much like going to a ice cream store to try to buy
lubricant for your oven - nothing makes any sense but its all legal

army morse code training video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waIFtVodHHM
=====
per a yt comment
I spent almost three months in the Spring of 1969 training as an Army
radio telegrapher, but when I was sent to Vietnam I never used
telegraphy at all, although other skills I had learned were important
and useful. Nor have I ever done anything with it in civilian life.
The one exception is that I was watching the PBS detective series
Morse one evening, when I realized that the theme music had a rhythm
that was spelling out M-O-R-S-E, as a sort of musical play on words.
It was a very catchy little rhythmic phrase, but only a trained
telegrapher would ever notice the hidden meaning or get the joke.

Ocala NF in FL - general info - 2023
iirc each workcenter has 1 ty6 engine and 1 dozer
====================
OUTREACH NOTICE
NTE 120 Day Detail
Please respond by 2/17/2023
The USDA Forest Service, National Forests in Florida, Ocala National
Forest may soon advertise two permanent Deputy District Ranger,
GS-0340-12, positions for the Ocala Ranger District. We are currently
looking for up to two detailers to fill the vacant positions until
they can be filled permanently. Duty station would either be Umatilla
or Silver Springs, FL. This is not a remote detail or position.
The Ocala is an extremely busy district. If you are unfamiliar with
the east, many states have multiple national forests but they are
administered under one Forest Supervisor. The Ocala National Forest
is managed under one district ranger for its 387,00 acres. It
currently has two offices and two workcenters as well as a helibase.
The district gets over a million recreational visitors each year to
visit and enjoy its many springs, lakes, rivers, campgrounds,
wilderness and trails. There are approximately 60 employees plus a
large number of volunteers to administer the work on the district as
well as concessionaires. Additionally the district has large
prescribed burning, fire, timber, wildlife, roads and special uses
programs.
The National Forests (NFs) in Florida consist of a Supervisor's Office
and three National Forests. The Supervisor's Office of the NFs in
Florida is in Tallahassee, FL, a metropolitan area rich in
multicultural history; the Apalachicola NF is closest to the
Supervisor's Office, the Osceola NF is only about a two-hour drive,
and the Ocala NF is approximately a three- hour drive. These national
forest lands span almost 1.2 million acres in north and central
Florida along with managing the 1,000-mile Florida National Scenic
Trail, which is one of 11 national scenic trails in the United States.
DUTIES:
The Deputy serves as an alter-ego to the District Ranger sharing
responsibility with the District Ranger for providing technical and
administrative direction to all activities on the District, including
supervision of District employees through intermediate supervisors.
Represents the District Ranger in any transaction affecting the Ranger
District with the same degree of authority to commit the District, but
subject to post review by the District Ranger or the Forest
Supervisor.
COMMUNITY:
North Central Florida offers abundant recreational opportunities in
water sports, fishing and hunting
The climate is sub-tropical with short mild winters and long humid
summers. The area is quickly becoming a suburb of Orlando and is
located approximately 40 miles north of Orlando and 40 miles southwest
of Daytona Beach. The tranquil Gulf-Side is only an hour drive west,
featuring white sugar sand and turquoise water. Snorkeling, Scuba
Diving, Boating, Scalloping are just some of the activities to take
part in along the Gulf side.
