avenues run north and south - they are numbered east to west - 1 at
East River - 12 at Hudson River - some Aves have alternative names -
(iirc some Avenues are 1 way - ???)
5th Ave is the 0 location - it runs along the east side of central park
streets run east and west - they are narrower than the Avenues - all
are one way - even streets run to the east - odds streets run to the
west - (iirc most "Streets" have 1 travel lane plus 2 parking lanes)
Houston St - pronounced Husston St - is the 0 street I think - it is
pretty far south actually
there are some A B C D streets in the SE corner of Manhattan
Broadway is the only diagonal Street

NYC Avenues seem to be much wider than any streets in Boston
not sure how many of the Streets are wide
