2010 - Miami Dade got 24K new radios from NEXTEL

www.miamidade.gov/auditor/library/1.14.10.HPSI.pdf

worth $90 million

In 2004 the FCC issued the order to reconfigure (reband) the 800 mhz band

who paid for all of this in the end? was it the feds? the US people?

nearly 20 years later - still not completed

always struck me as a total waste - iirc in the Boston area, the only
agency that had problems was Cambridge - and that was because they had
2 channels where NEXTEL channels were adjacent - so instead of just
moving a couple of channels - they turned the whole system upside down
