from 2017 plan
We respond to medical emergencies in support of SECAmb quite simply to
save lives. The Arrhythmia Alliance charity estimates that 100,000
people die from sudden cardiac arrest in the UK every year. Early
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) together with use of a
defibrillator will increase the survival rate from 9% to 50%. For
every minute a person is in cardiac arrest, without receiving basic
life support, their survival chances reduce by 10%. Since expanding
the resources available for these types of calls in October 2015, we
have responded to over 12,000 incidents with SECAMB as part of our
medical response.
