springfield mass fd - radio ops

listening to broadcastify feed yesterday

calls are announced once - not sure what channel they are on -
preceded by a warble tone / siren tone

all calls seems to be assigned to Command 1 or Command 2

it seems that Command 1 is the main channel / home channel / prime
channel - all minor incident s are handled on Command 1

any 2 or more company calls are handled on Command 2 it seems

portable radio test at 805 am had 3 radios per unit usually - alpha
bravo charlie - engine and trucks - there was also tac 1 and tac 3
which had 2 people each - tac 1 and tac 3 went to ems calls and mva
calls - iirc they are minipumpers - there is also Rescue 1

"Fire Alarm" is the dispatcher

iirc they use the words 'cancel' or 'clear' to tell units they are no
longer need at an incident - ie "Engine 5 you can clear"

3 car mva with injuries at union station got Engine 1 and Tac 1

false alarms at hotels got 1 engine and 1 truck

medical calls got 1 tac or 1 engine - AMR also went to the medical
calls but they were not heard on any of the fire radio feed

might have heard 1 unit testing on a simplex channel also - maybe was analog

command 1 and command 2 are usually P25 by the sound of it

truck 1 went out of service for mechanical issue - crew was using Med
98 vehicle - only available for fire and ems and elevator and CO calls

Heavy Rescue 1

radio test had Chief 1 Chief 2 Eng 1 Truck 1 Tac 1 Eng 2 Eng 3 Truck 3
Tac 3 Eng 4 Truck 4 Eng 5 (who had a delta radio also) Eng 6 Eng 7 Eng
8 Truck 8 Rescue Squad (thought they had a delta but they really
didnt) Arson 5
