Fire and EMS
Voters in Medical Lake approved a proposal to annex into Spokane
County Fire District No. 3. Medical Lake has relied on its
all-volunteer fire department since 1904, but the department has
struggled with dwindling volunteerism and missed calls.
Voters in Lake Stevens approved the merger of Lake Stevens Fire into
Snohomish County Fire District No. 7 near Monroe. The merger will
create a large district with about 162,000 residents. The two merging
districts are located about 15 minutes apart from each other, with
another fire protection district in between. However, the merger is
permitted under recent legislation that took effect in 2017-2018.
Previously, fire district mergers and annexations, as well as the
formation of a regional fire authority, were only authorized for
"adjacent" fire protection jurisdictions, but now such actions are
allowed as long as the jurisdictions are within "reasonable
proximity."
And voters in East Jefferson Fire Rescue and Snohomish County Fire
District No. 17 approved proposals to increase the number of fire
commissioners from three to five.

Just thinking outloud about Boston Transit
How about if we merge Uber + Lyft + MBTA + taxis + all the private buses run by hospitals and businesses - all riders use apps - you either select 'door to door' service or 'bus stop to bus stop' service or 'door to bus stop' service or 'bus stop to door' service - then the computer system matches the rider with the best available options - I could see minivans running up and down Comm Ave at 3 AM every 5 minutes - usually staying right on Comm Ave - sometimes getting off onto a side street to make pickups or dropoffs at a residence - throughput would be sky high

Yup but a comparable one less than a mile but not in same hospital
system. Have seen this free standing ER make people sign out AMA if
they want to go to another hospital besides there's.

Info about Boston area transit improvements
from reddit/boston
Expanding existing T lines is incredibly expensive. It requires more
rolling stock, more switch points, more staff, more infrastructure,
etc. Its much more than just digging a new tunnel or laying new rail.
Those expansions might be very helpful, but there are many more cost
effective things that can be done to improve transit. Chief among them
would be greatly expanding the number and length of bus lanes into and
within the city. This is what they do in Zurich and it works
wonderfully. Yeah, car traffic will get worse, but overall throughput
greatly improves.

note the comment about the fireground radios - only 1 person can talk at a time
keywords - doubles - doubling
in the report there is 1 or 2 instances were messages were not relayed
or received - not sure if they were face to face or radio messages -
one was the report from the apt over the original fire apt - that
would have been a critical message

The report also criticized the London Fire Brigade for sending
"relatively junior rank" commanders to the scene, and for "uncertain"
communication between the control room and the responders at the
scene. Other key aspects of the report included the observations that
the resident of the apartment where the blaze began was not at fault,
and that the structural use of cladding caused the fire's spread.

"Morning Lineup" on Angeles National Forest (ANF) - Monday October 28
2019 - 1240 EDT - (heard via Broadcastify feed listed previously in
this thread) - seems that not all stations were heard via this feed
Little Tujunga Station - Engine 10 - Captain plus 4 (firefighters/FF)
- Water Tender (WT) 10 with 1 operator - Dozer 10 on duty - Engine
(Eng) 310 - Engineer + 4 FF

person handcrew of hotshots) - [ 2nd strike team ?? ] - Patrol 22 off

Rincon Station - Engine 322 - Capt + 3 FF - Eng 521 (maybe a spare
rig) - Capt + 4 FF - WT 22 or WT 222 - 1 operator
San Dimas Tech Station - Eng 324 - Capt + 3 FF - Eng 326 - Capt + 3
Lower San Antonio Station - Eng 25 - Capt + 4 - WT 25 on - Patrol 25 on
Arcadia Station - ? Eng 22 + ? Eng 52 - (maybe AKA as HQ station or
Forest Supervisor Office Station)
Mill Creek Station - Eng 231 - Capt + 4 - Patrol 32 is on
?? Station - Engine 33 - Engineer + 3 - Engine 339 - Captain + 4
Chilao Station - Eng 531 (maybe spare rig) - Capt + 4 FF - Engine 36 -
Capt + 3 FF - Patrol 35 on R and R (off duty)
conclude Morning Lineup at 952 am edt
5 minutes later - Eng 33 move up to ? Green Valley ? Station
note - officers are either 'Captains' or 'Engineers' - maximum
staffing is apparently 5 people on one engine - minimum staffing might
be 4 people per engine - this might have been "heavy" staffing - dont
think they usually have 2 engines in more than 2 stations
note - Valyermo and Wrightwood apparently not heard - they are on
north side of the Forest
Question - anyone know exactly where San Dimas Tech station is located?

1. lets assume that aircraft cannot fly
2. lets assume that some repeater sites and cell towers will go down
3. maybe it would be a real good idea to set up a simplex countywide
command net on 154.28 - put vehicles with mobile radios on 154.28 on
the 12 highest driveable mountains
4. the only other option I see is using sat phones or maybe some
countywide TRS - or using ham channels - I dont think that any low
band channels are in service
5. maybe they need simplex radios at all of the PSAPs in the county also
Lots of people will be calling 911. No one knows where these calls
will end up. But they have to be relayed to the nearest chief officer
or fire company some how. Otherwise you are basically into "total
communications failure" mode. And all field units would then have to
operate independently without support from any other units.

Technology upgrades, such as adding global positioning system tracking
to all county vehicles and establishing systems for using low-tech

Re: [sme2] Free Access to NASCAR "scanner"
that was pretty good - I listened to the winner on the last few laps -
and misc other parts of the race - little bit of cussin
overall - comms sound like air traffic control - very precise - very
short - spotter is telling driver who is around him and the relative
positions of the main contenders - "2 back" = (2 car lengths back) -
"2 in your mirror" - "clear" - "clear" - "door" - "back bumper" -
clear - clear - (doing a pass I guess) - etc
there were some huge doubles - maybe because there are 2 spotters and
1 driver on the channel
sometimes drivers are heard - sometimes they are not
spotter is always heard - aka Tower
"Garage" might have been the 2nd spotter that I heard - or 2nd base on
the winning drivers freq
'
the officials channel just seemed to have Elgin 1 and Elgin 2 - which
both seemed to be sweepers - mention of wrecks but no safety crews
heard
options - you can chose to listen to ---- "mrn" (commentators) -
officials - scan (all drivers I suppose) - then each individual driver

not sure why this did this - if cranes were stable enough to place
explosives - werent they stable enough to disassemble? maybe there are
no cranes tall enough to take down those 2 cranes? maybe too much work
to set up 2 more cranes in hazard collapse zone? maybe a helo would be
too windy?

YahooGroups going away - sorta
https://forums.radioreference.com/threads/understand-whats-changing-in-yahoo-groups-beginning-oct-21-2019-info-permanently-removed-december-14-2019.395922/
not really sure what this means
I guess it means that everything will go away except the actual Emails
maybe because bots were filling up the FILES with porn and spam all day long
I never had any major problems with YahooGroups - but I have mostly
mirrored all of my YahooGroups posts on GoogleGroups

Re: video about prelim ntsb report on B17 crash
from the ntsb prelim report
. The approach controller verified the request and asked if the pilot
required any assistance, to which he replied no.
(afaik this means that the airport FD was not alerted at this time)

did not declare an emergency
fire trucks were told to use any runways - that message was from the
tower I presume - on the ground freq I imagine
it all happened very quick
note - the B17 used 2 freqs - tower and approach/departure
