What Really Happened at the Hernando de Soto Bridge?

https://youtu.be/e8PodEM4Y8g

the bridge in Memphis that sprouted the big crack

crack had been there since 2016 apparently

question - why are there arches on that bridge? - it looks like there
are multiple piers evenly spaced

question - why is the bridge designed so that the loss of 1 beam can
take down the entire bridge or a large section?

could they add 1 or 2 piers north and south of the bridge to provide
more lateral stability (if needed)

seismic updates had been done to the bridge recently - didnt they
notice any cracks? didnt anyone on any boat ever notice any cracks?

engineers called 911 direct and asked for total traffic shutdown -
would love to have heard that call
