1846 might be the year that Cambridge switched from being a town to a city
this is the first city report I see listed in this collection ... not
sure if any TOWN reports are online from earlier years
FD info on pages 12 to 14
FD was established by Legislature in 1832
as of 1846 the city has 5 engine companies with 40 vols each plus 1
ladder company with 22 vols ... there is 1 spare engine ... might
have read that a little wrong
engine companies get $400 per year from city ... ladder company gets $200
some fire stations need to be moved or fixed up
FD is alerted by sounding bells
vols are playing political games etc
