seems crazy ... why is notice for only 1 week? why is the assistant
director position also open? is this a simple retirement and promotion
deal? why so close to fire season?

Duties are listed at the full performance level.
Develops and implements the complete Regional Fire and Aviation
Management, Fuels Management, Rural Community Fire Protection, and
Cooperative Forest Fire Programs.
Provides authoritative management direction and develops Regional
criteria and standards for aviation, fuels, and fire operations in
coordination with other federal agencies and States.
Provides leadership, coordination, and administration of all assigned
functions necessary to affect cooperative fire programs and to enhance
protection of private forest lands.
Directs the planning, preparation and execution of a complex Regional
budget including integrated Regional budget advice development and
allocation of funding to National Forests and States within the
Region.
Coordinates and communicates standards and workforce management needs
with line and staff at all levels of the agency.
