it was a medevac plane not a medevac helo as I thought previously
my bottom line - it seems the pilot bent over to reprogram the
navigation system - lost spatial awareness - and spiraled into the
ocean
no mention of a mayday call in this video

one comment at YT says -
Beech uses the Colins Proline system in the king air. I maintained an
B200 air ambulance and was always struck with how the inputs required
to enter any changes required the pilot to put their head down to look
at the input pad mounted below and behind the throttle quadrant, which
would induce disorientation just from head movements, let alone the
head up/head down/head up transition. My aircraft was flown with two
crew only because of the weather we operated in, but the input pad was
on the pilots side of the center console. We had one pilot with poor
flying skills and he lost altitude immediately after rotation because
he went head down over something when he should have been locked on
establishing a climb. RIP for the crew and prayer for the loved ones
left behind.
pitch black out there - cant see any lights from the islands - per
