radio repeater station - in brooklyneese
radio repeater station = 2 boxes that sit up on a high spot - box 1
has a radio receiver that listens to freq 1 - box 2 has a radio
transmitter that transmits on freq 2 - there is a wire from box 1 TO
box 2 that immediately ships any radio signals received by box 1 to
box 2 - said radio traffic is then transmitted forthwith by box 2 in
the confines of the something something - dont ya love the NYC jargon?
================
The FCC ULS (the fcc radio license database) has several types of
radio repeaters - FB2 - MO3 - FB2T - FX2
FB2 = normal garden variety repeater
FB2S = a backup / spare / secondary / reserve garden variety repeater
MO3 = repeater in a car or truck
FB2T = temporary repeater - like in a mobile command post
FX2 - radio relay that transmits a signal to one specific location - a
"link" station
----------
iirc the IRAC / federal radio database uses the designator "FBR" as an
equivalent to the FCC FB2

apex fd got 'better' radio coverage
'better' = we paid lots of money for this and we will never admit in a

only get worse

Ozark County MO - big radio upgrade
https://www.ozarkcountytimes.com/news-local-news/commissioners-accept-bid-institute-major-upgrade-communication-system
$250,000 for 15 MO3 + new FB2 + 100 portable radios
sounds like they are adding synchronized simulcast to the main channel
which has both fire and sheriff
seems they will give each fire chief and each sheriffs deputy one MO3 also
they had an incident where cops at back of house could not talk to
deputies at front of house - they need to be praying at the Church of
Allah-Simplex!
also - pagers dont work for tecumseh FD - screw them
they dont use the Bakersfield repeater - oh really
==============================
in the last year or two there have been about one hundred new radio
licenses in Missouri for portables and FBT and MO3 on 800 mhz -
someone is selling this gear as their salvation in the Church of
Allah-Not-Simplex - are they being sold dual band radios? VHF high and
800 ?

info on Fresno County FD
this is another county where Cal Fire and the local VFDs have
effectively been merged in an administrative sense - ( operationally
they have been merged for decades - since they use a common radio and
dispatch system - and since the career staff for the County Fire
District stations are all Cal Fire employees )
legally speaking - Cal Fire is responsible for wildland fire
suppression on state responsibility areas - which basically is the
lowlands between the cities and the mountains - the county is somewhat
responsible for fire and rescue services in all unincorporated areas
and non fire district areas - the cities and fire districts are
responsible for their tax support areas - the volunteer companies are
responsible for some of the unincorporated areas (with financial
support from the County iirc)
note - this is a county fire district not a county fire department -
which apparently means that they set their own tax rate and have their
own budget (entirely separate from the County budget)
Fresno County Fire has 2 Cal Fire repeater pairs and a County repeater
pair or two - for dispatch and command channels - ( they also use a
mixture of local and Cal Fire tac channels ) - all of these radio
channels are in the VHF highband
===========================

Department Profile
The Fresno County Fire Protection District, in cooperation with the
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL Fire),
provides all risk emergency services from 15 career staffed fire
stations and 2 District paid call firefighter stations. The
Fresno-Kings Unit of CAL Fire provides services through 9 CAL Fire
manned, state owned stations.
Under an MOU signed with the County of Fresno in 2018, the District
assumed operational responsibility for the unprotected areas of the
County, in effect becoming the jurisdictional authority for those
areas. As part of the agreement, the District also provides support to
five true Volunteer Fire Companies in Eastern Fresno County.

This doesn't seem like that small of an event. Did the event not have
a private EMS company standby?

@FireEMS38 Ah, makes sense. So this was more of an assist/transport
kind of call. I've always loved your videos as a (also in MI)

considering that there is no way to really know whats in that truck -
probably would be much safer to back up 1 mile and let it burn out -

'initial attack' is day 1 on a fire
'extended attack' is everything beyond that
radio freqs change after Day 1 on a fire
the reason is - all the radios are set up with 16 channels to handle
their initial attack incidents - anyone coming to the fire later is
going to need to get their radio reprogrammed anyhow (since they are
coming in from out of area) - so you might as well reprogram everyones
radio at the fire - and release the initial attack freqs back to the
local jurisdiction
east coast firefighters have no clue about any of this - lol

Elizabeth NJ FD radio test - friday
heard friday July 28 2023 at 815 am edt via broadcastify feed
815 am - 2 minutes to radio test
dispatcher calls each company one by one - all radios in the company
are tested - the official IDs seems to be - Ladder 1 (officer) +
Ladder 1 Charlie + Ladder 1 Delta + Ladder 1 Echo + Ladder 1 Foxtrot
the Foxtrot units seem to be mostly "unassigned" ie no one is using
them - they are spares
many abbreviated callsigns were heard on the test - sometimes Ladder 1
D or just D or just Delta
units called were - Ladder 1 + Ladder 2 + Ladder 3 + Rescue 1 (maybe
had Roof HT also) + Air Unit + Engine 1 + 2 + 3 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 +
HazMat + Batt 1 + Batt 2 + Deputy 1
HazMat did not reply
Air Unit plus chiefs had just 1 radio each
Rescue 1 Delta radio was out of service
dispatcher has a triple quick beep on keyup
0825 test over - approx
deputy 1 and batt 1 did not reply to the test
also called - EMS 3,5,6,7 - none answered - 5 was on assignment
===============
829 am - batt 1 made some announcement to all units and finshed with
"that is all"
832 am - two tone pager signal - "Signal 407" announced once - seemed

Based on lessons learned during Japanese attacks on vessels during

Sta 1 comes on the radio and says "Station 2 only"

apparently Station 1 decides who will respond to some calls

"A paddle boarder went missing on a pond in Martha's Vineyard,
Massachusetts, over the weekend, and reports indicate that the 911
call regarding the missing man came from an estate owned by former
President Barack Obama."
"Just after 7:45 p.m. on Sunday evening, law enforcement received
reports of a man who had gone missing while paddleboarding on
Edgartown Great Pond, an 890-acre body of water on Martha's Vineyard.
Obama's $12 million waterfront property on the island, which he
purchased in 2019, is located on Edgartown Great Pond, and a 911 call
regarding the man reportedly came from the Obamas' mansion. It is
unclear whether the former president, 61, or any member of his family
was visiting the residence at the time."
"According to reports, 43-year-old Campbell had been wearing all
black, a hat, and no life jacket when he began drowning. His male
companion claimed that the victim went underwater in the area of
Turkeyland Cove and briefly resurfaced but struggled to keep himself
above water. He then disappeared under the surface around 7:46 p.m.,
the companion said."
==========================
seems there were 2 guys paddleboarding in the pond - 1 guy saw the
other guy fall in and struggle then sink - you would think the
survivor would start yelling for help and maybe dive into the water -
but it seems that the survivor paddled to shore and asked someone to
call 911 - or maybe the survivor did yell for help AND paddled to
shore looking for help - maybe that is why there are more than 1 911
call (maybe) - come to think of it - if the survivor was yelling for
help - there would be no need to paddle to shore - and probably there
would be no need to paddle to shore AND ask for someone to call for
help - if you were near a pond and you heard someone yelling - wouldnt
you yell back and ask what was wrong? and then wouldnt you immediately
call 911 somehow? - maybe that is what happened - maybe not
now this story can capture the national news - then there will be big
hurricanes - and the 1 million that died from covid in the usa will be
a distant memory

finally figured out Shasta County CA fire radio channels - maybe
possibly we have figured out the fire radio channels used outside
Redding California
the 2016 or 2018 or 2022 radio guide for the Shasta Trinity National
Forest lists -
10 repeaters for 151.16 R which is Cal Fire Shasta Local
4 repeaters listed for 154.43 R which is Shasta County Command - 1 is
at Inskip which is in the SE corner of the county all by itself (ie
there is no 151.16 repeater there)
15 or 16 repeaters listed for 171.575 R which is the Shasta Trinity NF
main channel
4 or 5 repeaters listed for 171.50 R which is the Shasta NF Service Net
Shasta County Tac 2 is 154.01
Shasta County Tac 3 is 153.95
there might be some Cal Fire Command 9 repeaters somewhere in Shasta
County - and some Cal Fire Command 1 and Command 2 repeaters also
This tells us that 154.43 R probably is not a dispatch channel since
it only has 4 repeater sites - it probably has many more dead spots
than 151.16 R
Bottom Line - its all pretty straight forward

In 1991, the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation, through the
self-governance process, compacted the Wildland Fire Program from the
BIA and formed the Hoopa Volunteer Fire Company (HVFC). Since then
fire protection on the reservation is undertaken by the Hoopa Wildland
Fire Company (HWFC) and the Hoopa Volunteer Fire Company (HVFC). The
HWFC is supported by ten full-time members, seven temporary members,
and six seasonal members. They are responsible for wildland fires and
are under the jurisdiction of Hoopa Forestry. Their apparatuses
include: four type-3 engines, two type-4 quick attack engines, and one
water tender. The HVFC, established by the tribal council, is an
all-risk organization that deals with structural fires and provides
fire services to all residents within the reservation boundaries. It
consists of 14 volunteers, and their apparatuses include: one type-1
engine, one type-3 engine, one rescue utility vehicle, a command
vehicle, and a Yamaha jet outboard unit. During the fire offseason the
HWFC maintains a "skeleton crew" to staff an engine 365 days a year.
Volunteer Fire generally has at least 3-5 volunteers on call 24 hours
a day and 365 days a year. Both programs are trained in ICS and
pertinent emergency response programs. The HWFC works through the use
of Mutual Aid agreements to partner with other agencies including the
HVFC to provide structural fire suppression in wildland fire
situations.

Germany on the other hand ....
Germany, on the other hand, in an act of deep patriotism, teaches the
full, brutal truth about the Nazis. Lying about the true history of
the Nazis is a crime in Germany. And it does not make German young
people feel "guilty" about being German. It makes them angry at those
in the past who allowed barbarism to spread through the nation, to
spread hate of and attempt to wipe out Jews, homosexuals, gypsies etc,
to ban and burn books, to manipulate history, to infuse children with
false and toxic nationalism, and so on...... (continues)

we are guessing that there is a giant evil campaign at twitter right
now to destroy any twitter accounts that are a beacon of truth or
honesty - its being done in secret of course - and might not be
obvious to the account owners at this time

when was the last time you saw a headline in the main stream media
that said that a FD did something wrong? never -right?
so lets recap - public always wrong - FDs always right
public is always wrong - parked in front of hydrant - flew a drone
near fire - lit some fireworks - didnt clear vegetation - didnt pay
firemen enough money - dednt evacuate when warned - etc et etc
but we have never seen any article that says that the FD made an error
- there might be articles that claim that the FD did something wrong -
let a controlled burn escape - didnt attack a fire early enough - but
these are "just claims" - they are never substantiated - no one in the
fire service is ever disciplined - they are always "perfect" - no one
ever wins a judgement against a FD for doing a seriously lousy job
surely 1 FD made one real error once? and they learned from it - didnt
they? was it ever publicized? the lessons that were learned - were
they ever publicized? did anyone in any FD ever "live and learn"
anything?

update on Hassle Fire near Flagstaff AZ - crazy insane
https://goo.gl/maps/Vx9EaoXvDEADpzVU7 - sat view of fire location with
distance to nearby homes
https://goo.gl/maps/4mXjFzKsENCREyfQ6 - this looks like the access
road to the area - dirt road that leads to Forest Road 301 - Coconino
NF had no problem sending dozers + water tenders + type 3 engines in
there
but apparently Flagstaff FD and any rural FDs and State Forestry did
not send anyone - that fire burnt for nearly 45 minutes until the
first water equipped unit arrived - (IC arrived in 30 minutes)
wildcad from flagstaff dispatch shows the fire at 18 acres now - units
are going back to the fire scene today
this is the neighborhood of homes that are 1.5 air miles to north of
the fire - https://goo.gl/maps/dciKi75NQJacaiXK6 - its a full blown
subdivision
insane that the fire burnt for 45 minutes until anyone arrived with
water - surely Flagstaff FD could have had 2 or 3 trucks in there in
15 minutes
where the heck were the helicopters and airtankers?
google maps shows the usfs land as green - apparently there is no
cooperative agreement between USFS and Flagstaff FD - which is very
very weird considering that USFS has not 1 but 2 fire stations right
in Flagstaff

this is the new revolution in fire department radio systems -
synchronized simulcast repeaters for tremendous interior and exterior
coverage - in theory

Re: [Public Safety USA Blog] coconino nf has a fire
fire is at fisher point which is SE of downtown flagstaff - wind is
blowing fire to south - if fire gets across the draw or river or
whatever - their is a big telescope about 2 or 3 miles to south of
there - "Monday" has arrived at the fire - he will give an update - he
had asked for the call when needed type 1 helo to be launched before
he arrived - have not heard any other aircraft go enroute yet
https://goo.gl/maps/kjBDS7NNhF2j6NBJ7 - fisher point
they must use a different base station to dispatch calls - we heard
the towers call this in - and we heard units responding - but we did
not hear an actual dispatch - or actually - maybe it was in and out
and we just heard parts of it
some local FDs might be responding to this also - it is not that far
out of downtown flagstaff - maybe 5 air miles

multi hand crews - 9 helos - just a couple of federal water tenders -
several private engines
tac channels are nifc tac 1 2 3 - thats interesting - considering all
of the tac channels that are available - they still have to resort to
nifc tac channels to meet their needs
they do seem to have 4 air to ground channels however
CFPA = coos fire protective association iirc - that should be engines
(state/federal joint)
medford hospital is only a level 3?

still unknown if Pennsylvania State Parks have any fire trucks - they
must have at least 1 type 7 engine somewhere - but an google image

riddle of the day
riddle me this - how many radio channels has the FCC set aside
strictly for fire service use?
perhaps the answer is - 33.42 - 45.88 - 46.30 - 153.83 - 154.28 -
154.265 - 154.295 - 154.2725 - 154.2875 - 154.3025 - and a couple at

Pennsylvania State Forestry - zerg90 map
https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=17MZhBtDlWKzKPO7y0OHxCGateZ7HpbM&usp=sharing
bottom line - each "station" has 1 type 6 wildland engine usually -
they also have around 30 lookout towers and some recon planes - they
also have around 5 helios and 5 SEATs - main fire season is in the
spring - some districts only have type 7 slipon fire units - they also
have some dozers - there is more info at the map index
there are 20 forest districts - and each usually has 3 to 5 stations
not every county has a station - they seem to orient themselves more
towards rural areas than suburban - local fire departments actually do
most of the initial attack in most areas - there are a couple of very
rural counties that only have 2 or 3 local FDs
state forestry has wildfire responsibility over 2 million acres
state forestry will take over any major wildfire that continues past 1
operational period
state forestry has oversight statewide on all forestry issues (fire
and pests etc) on public and private land - except for federal land

PA State Forestry was a telephone company until 1969
Fire Protection
Exclusion of fire from the state forest was recognized very early as
an important part of scientific forestry. Thus, part of the early
development was the selection of convenient trees as lookout points
for forest fire detection. These trees were later replaced with
wooden, and eventually steel, observation towers.
Telephone lines were built to provide communication between fire
towers, offices, and other points in the forest. Often persons living
along these lines were permitted to hook onto them (free of charge)
and soon the department found itself in the telephone business. The
confusing situation lasted until 1969 when the Bell Telephone Company
took over the last of these lines

seems to me that it is not smart to bunch up in a big gaggle and

that crossfire is an issue - but being a gaggle squad does not look
very smart imho

2022 - Wildland Fire Management with Fire Management Officer, John Cataldo
2022 - 30 minute interview - Yellowstone National Park - 80% of their
fires are caused by lightning - naturally fire burns thru their
forests approx every 150 years - they are removing some vegetation
(via ?logging?) - they do very little prescribed fire - their fire
environment swings wildly from low to extreme ("its either on or off")
and that makes prescribed fire hard to achieve
====================
zerg90 comments
we are not really sure where they stand - they know they have some
very important structures to defend - they also know that allowing
some fires to burn is very beneficial - so they have to juggle those
2 concerns
would be interesting to see if they have any interface plan - like a
cwpp or a firewise plan - if they have a major wildfire year - and
again are facing huge fires blowing into inhabited areas - that wont
look very good for them
but if the structural FD is very strong and has a good water supply -
then maybe they think they can handle whatever mother nature throws at
them
there are very dependent on outside resources for wildfire control -
if worse came to worse - they could get FDNY and Wash DC FD to send in
a few dozen engines in under 72 hours - (2100 miles - 32 hours per
google - nyc to yellowstone via I90)

Re: [Public Safety USA Blog] Yellowstone Natl Park hired 6 firefighters for the summer
https://secretyellowstone.com/ynp-operations/fire-protection/
this seems to be info from 2005 - the newest fire rigs listed are from 2005
structural fire dept had 2 fulltime employees
wildland fire dept had approx a dozen summer time staff plus some fulltime staff
maybe since 2005 thet have added 6 summer firefighters for the structural FD
that would not be too shabby if they have staffing for all of their
stations and can roll all rigs to all calls - ie send both wildland
and structural units to most calls - except the structural trucks
probably cannot go way into the woods
lets see what fire fandom has to say about this -
https://fire.fandom.com/wiki/Yellowstone_National_Park_Fire_Department
- they got a couple of new minipumpers in 2017
lets hope they are not operating 30 year old pumpers still as their
primary units - what would be the point of doing that - too show
everyone hope cheap and foolish you really are?

https://www.usajobs.gov/job/715417300
not really sure what this means - we suspect this means that they put
1 person in each fire station weekdays - that person drives the fire
truck to the scene where they are met by oncall staff - either rangers
or mtnce people or concessions people
these are 6 month jobs - pay $46,000 per year - FF2 and EMT and pump
operator training is required - maybe have fulltime job benefits
not sure who staffs the fire trucks at night and on weekends
the wildland fire crew is probably entirely different people - but
they only have a couple of engines and 1 helo iirc
